Non-Traditional Casting

Before you Audition

  1. Get an Audition Packet online paschalpanthermusical.com or from the Theatre (141 & 140) or Choir classrooms.

  2. Sign Up for an audition slot through the google doc. Only sign up for ONE of the days, but you must stay the whole time.

  3. Visit paschalpanthermusical.com and review the Musical Handbook. If you have any questions, see Ms. Wilson in room 141.

  4. Get to know the story/music.  Listen to the soundtrack. YouTube the musical/music.  Visit paschalpanthermusical.com and www.mtishows.com/fiddler-on-the-roof

  5. Choose one monologue from the ten options that you would like to present.  Monologues are in your Audition Packet. 

    1. Choose a monologue that you feel most comfortable presenting. At Paschal, we don’t audition for specific roles, you do your best, most confident audition and the directors will place you in the role that is best for the show.

    2. Your monologue does NOT have to be memorized. Memorization is an indicator of preparation and you will have a more dynamic and interesting presentation if you are not looking at a script, but memorization is NOT mandatory.

    3. Practice “slating your name.” At the audition, right before you present your monologue, you will need to say “Hello, my name is your first and last name and today I will be presenting monologue character from musical title.”

    4. The directors are looking for actors that

      1. Speak with loud volume and clear enunciation

      2. Perform with confidence and poise

      3. Create a character (show an audience what the character is thinking and feeling through voice inflection, emotional expression, body language, facial expressions, and blocking)

      4. “Make Big Choices” (present your monologue in an interesting and unique performance)

  6. Choose one audition music selection from the four options that you would like to sing.  Song selections are on pages 3-6 of your Audition Packet.

    1. Choose a song selection that you feel most comfortable presenting. At Paschal, we don’t audition for specific roles, you do your best, most confident audition.

    2. Your song selection does NOT have to be memorized. Memorization is an indicator of preparation and you will have a more dynamic and interesting presentation if you are not looking at the music, but memorization is NOT mandatory.

    3. The directors are looking for actors that

      1. Sing with resonant volume and clear enunciation

      2. Sing the correct notes and rhythm, and match pitch

      3. Perform with confidence and poise

      4. Create a character (show an audience what the character is thinking and feeling through voice inflection, emotional expression, body language, facial expressions, and blocking)

      5. “Make Big Choices” (present your musical selection in an interesting and unique performance)

 

  1. For your monologue and singing audition, you will need professional attire that you can perform in, are in dress code, and would be appropriate for a job interview.

 

  1. Complete the Audition Form in your Audition Packet and bring it to the day of auditions.  Please write clearly.  It’s hard to cast you if we can’t read your name or your contact information.

    1. Fill out the entire Audition Form.  Print Clearly.

    2. Students must initial and sign the Casting Agreement on the audition form.

    3. Parents must initial and sign the Parent Agreement on the audition form.

    4. Be sure to review the Musical Handbook found at Paschal musical website

  2. Everyone must fill out the conflicts sheet in your Audition Packet.

    1. Please follow the directions and fill out the conflicts to the best of your ability.

    2.  Attendance is very important.

    3. We don’t call everyone to every rehearsal until we start running the show, so you will have certain days off.

    4. Musical Orientation, Program Photos/Costume Fitting, Sitzprobe, Tech Rehearsal, Dress Rehearsals, and Performances are mandatory. If you cannot attend these events, you are not eligible for casting.

    5. Be sure to review the attendance policies in the Musical Handbook found at Paschal musical website, paschalpanthermusical.com

 

Auditions

  1. Bring your completed Audition Form and Conflict sheet to Auditions in the choir room. They can be found at paschalpanthermusical.com and in the Theatre and Choir classrooms.

  2. Come to auditions on Monday (10/21), OR Tuesday (10/22) in the choir room from 4:00pm-6:00pm.  You only have to come ONE of the days, but you must stay the whole time.

    1. Each student auditioning will present a short monologue.

    2. Students will sing in small groups. If you are interested in a solo (big or small), you will sing individually after singing with your small group.

    3. Students will dance in small groups.

  3. Callbacks will be posted on remind (text @pmusical to 81010) and on paschalpanthermusical.com as soon as casting decisions are made.  

    1. People listed on the callback list will need to attend further auditions in the Theater on Thursday (11/1) at 4:30-8:00pm

    2. This audition will consist of more singing and acting. 

      1.  You will be doing a cold reading scene from the show.  (This means you’ll be given a script, a group, and a short amount of time to prepare a performance.)

      2. You will be asked to sing several selections you will learn at call backs.

    3. You may be cast even if you are not on the callback list.

  4. Dance Chorus auditions will be Thursday, Oct. 24. If you are auditioning for the Dance Chorus only, only come to this day, if you are auditioning for dance chorus and a part come to one of the audition dates and the dance audition. 

    1. You do not need to prep anything, just come ready to dance.​

  5. The cast will be posted on remind (text @pmusical to 81010) and on paschalpanthermusical.com as soon as casting decisions are made.  

  6. If you are on the cast list you will need to attend orientation on Tuesday, Oct. 29 4:00pm-6:00pm and your parents will need to attend the parent meeting at 6:00pm.
